How was your New Years? Did you spend it reflecting on 2016? Have you set your plans in motion for 2017? Check out the lessons worth a lot of money.

With a chuckle every time, my grandfather used to say: “Plan your Work, And Then Work your Plan!”.

While taking action, there have been many times that I have skipped the planning part (the part I love) because I thought it was not a money-making activity. Don’t do this.

In the spirit of planning and reflecting, I wanted to share with you the lessons I learned in 2016.

1. HIRING A COACH IS THE FIRST OF MANY LESSONS WORTH A LOT OF MONEY

Most people I know fear to say this because their audience thinks that they are saying it just cause they want them to hire them. I am guilty of thinking this in the past! I was always like “Ya-Ya, but I’m smart, and I can figure this out on my own.”

Honestly, though people were stupid for hiring a coach for thousands of dollars while I secretly wanted to be a coach who charged high-end prices (because it logically made sense to me). So, I tried getting by on free stuff and smaller priced courses ($197-997).

Almost went bat shit crazy trying to do everything myself for a whole year! At the end of 2015, I hired my high-level coach Gina Devee to the tune of $13,500. I got my first client a month later! (Yeah, you read that right, a year after starting my coaching business I got my first client, and only AFTER I hired a high-level coach).

Why? First, the moment that I hired her, I up-leveled my mindset and wealth consciousness by simply investing in myself! I told the universe: “I’m ready to go to the next level!” Second, I decided to follow the coaching and do #whateverittakes!

2. DONE IS BETTER THAN PERFECT

The Motto that I adopted for the year was: Done is Better Than Perfect!

As a recovering perfectionist, this was a much-needed lesson in letting go. It allowed me to take more massive action than ever before.

Before: I sat behind my computer analyzing and thinking. Did not take a lot of action. I made a post here and there and then watched how people responded.

After: I took action no matter how I felt about it. And, if I made a typo, I forgave myself. If the wrong email went out, I owned it, corrected it, and asked how I can improve my process. I did not go to a place of despair, but instead looked forward and patted myself on the back for taking action – even if it was imperfect action.

3. MAKE YOUR GOALS NON-NEGOTIABLE

If you make your goals non-negotiable, you will make them happen.

My non-negotiables for 2016:

  1. Quit my 9-5 and work in my coaching business full time.
  2. Attend all 4 LIVE events in The Academy and stay at Luxury Accommodations.

No matter what was happening in my life, those things happened because they were true desires for me and they were a MUST!

There were times I did not know how I was going to make it happen, but I did!

4. START BEFORE YOUR READY

I have learned a lot in the past 6 months about myself and what I am capable of because I started and took action before I was really ‘READY’ – meaning: I was scared as shit – A LOT.

I didn’t always know HOW I was going to reach my goal. Just followed my intuition – I call her ‘my knowing’. You know that feeling that you just have to DO something. It is in every fiber of your BEING, but you tell yourself, “No. I cannot do that!”. Maybe you think because ‘It doesn’t make logical sense’ or you think you ‘don’t have enough money’ or you think your ‘not good enough’.

There is power in starting before you are ready because 1) you are telling yourself and the universe that you are ready by stepping up to the plate and 2) you are taking action – and in taking action you are moving your vision forward.

5. THE LAST AMONG MANY LESSONS WORTH A LOT OF MONEY IS “SAY YES! TO YOURSELF”

I have been a consummate professional at saying NO to myself.

Investing in myself and hiring my coach for $13,500 was my first gift to myself in 2016. Quitting my 9-5 was my second.

I had started getting the knowing/the calling two years before quitting. But, I did not have a financial plan in place. Knew that I needed to leave, but I was scared. Two years later I took to plunge, but only after dying a little inside every day for the next two years. Said NO to me for two years!! Don’t let that be you, NO MATTER WHAT PEOPLE SAY! Do you #nomatterwhat!

In sharing all this, I was thinking about what I have that can support you in building good habits for 2017 and to make sure you set yourself up for success.
