This week a friend of mine received some news that caused them to change their focus to that of negative self talk or to that which they did not want. In our communication, I was reminded of the power of focus.
Your mind is very powerful and whatever you focus on expands. So, are you focusing on what you want or on what you don’t want? We become what we focus on. Where it is that you focus your mind will drive your behavior and, thus, your results. So, make sure to pay close attention to the pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells, and self talk that are holding space in your mind.
Let’s look at some examples:
A Salesman – making phone calls – are you picturing people on the other side of the phone excited to talk to you or mad that you interrupted their day?
An employee – headed to work – are you thinking about being fired or the great attitude that you will bring to the office today?
1. Journal: Where in your life are you focusing on what you don’t want? How can you change the pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells and/or self talk to that which you want?
2. Practice: When a thought or feeling comes in that is negative or that which you don’t want, choose a new thought or feeling. One that is positive and something that you do want. (Continue this for 28 days)
Thank you for reading and sharing with your friends! Don’t forget to share your comments. I’d love to hear them.
